Feeling Stuck? Find a Coach
Being stuck is a universal feeling. Life puts up barriers to our ability to move forward and to feel like we are living how we are meant to live.
You are just beginning your career, with a vague notion of what you would like to do, but not seeing a job option that fits or, conversely, overwhelmed by the possibilities… Or, you find yourself in a job that bores or drains you and you are uncharacteristically disengaged… Or, you had a job you loved and you were laid-off and left wondering what happened and what to do next…
Your loved one receives a diagnosis that disables them and disorients you. You know this will change life for both of you but can’t visualize what it will look like or how to start the adjustment…
You are a woman who thought she had it all together until perimenopause hit and now you can’t form a thought or sentence, can’t sleep through the night, and are constantly and irrationally irritated at everything and everyone, including those you love the most…
You are exhausted by burnout. You are slogging your way through the day like a zombie, having less and less capacity or interest for anything, terrified you are going to just shut down completely but lacking the energy to do anything about it…
What are your options? If you have robust social support or a therapist who is a great match for you personally and financially, then you may be in a position to move through these transitions and thrive. But what to do when social support isn’t available or therapy just isn’t sufficient?
Coaching is an option to fill these gaps and is rising in popularity and professionalism. As opposed to social support or therapy, coaching is an intentional and professional partnership of mutual inquiry leading to insights that clarify values, interests, preferences and strengths. This clarity then illuminates the path forward to a life that is authentic, meaningful and “unstuck”.
Finding a professional coach who is the right fit for you may take some time, trial and error but can yield life-changing results. A coach should have professional credentials such as Certified Professional Coach, Associate/Professional/Master Certified Coach, or National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach. Reviewing a coach’s website, blogs/articles/books, social media posts, testimonials and/or ratings should give you a feel for their professional expertise and whether their experience and areas of interest fit your needs. A coach should also offer a complimentary initial consultation to orient you to the process and ensure the right fit. Typically coaching is not covered by insurance, but it is common for coaches to offer packages and/or payment plans.
